Immune Support and Inflammation

A well-functioning immune system can distinguish between harmful and harmless exposures and respond in a balanced way. When these signals become dysregulated, immune activation and inflammation can become persistent, contributing to symptoms throughout the body.

Systemic or ongoing low-grade inflammation is associated with a range of chronic conditions and can be influenced by factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, a nutrient-poor, highly processed diet, chronic stress, poor sleep, environmental exposures, infections, and immune- or mast-cell–related conditions.

At D-Signed Nutrition, we use a functional, root-cause–oriented approach to help identify contributors to immune imbalance and inflammation and to develop a personalized nutrition and lifestyle plan that supports your overall health.

Conditions and Concerns We Support

We provide nutrition support for a variety of immune- and inflammation-related concerns, including:

  • General immune resilience and frequent or prolonged illnesses
  • Chronic or unexplained fatigue and inflammatory symptoms
  • Autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, in collaboration with your medical team
  • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)–related symptoms (such as flushing, hives, GI upset, headaches), alongside appropriate medical diagnosis and treatment
  • Mycotoxin‑related illness and mold exposure, with a focus on nutrition, lifestyle, and reduction of dietary exposures, as part of a broader clinical plan
  • Long COVID/Post-acute sequelae of SARS‑CoV‑2 infection (PASC), with emphasis on supporting energy metabolism, inflammation modulation, gut health, and nutrient adequacy in coordination with your healthcare providers
  • Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)–related fatigue or reactivation concerns, including support for nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory eating patterns, gut health, and lifestyle strategies that may complement medical management

Our role is to support you nutritionally while your diagnosing providers manage testing, medications, and medical treatment.

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome is characterized by episodes of mast cell mediator release that can affect multiple organ systems, leading to symptoms such as flushing, itching, hives, swelling, gastrointestinal symptoms, headaches, and sometimes more severe reactions. Management typically involves medical evaluation, medications, and avoidance of triggers, and nutrition can complement that care by reducing symptom-triggering foods and supporting overall diet quality.

From a nutrition perspective, we may:

  • Review diet and symptom patterns to identify potential food triggers (for example, higher-histamine foods or patterns that seem to precede flares) while maintaining adequate intake
  • Use time-limited, structured dietary trials when appropriate, with clear plans for reintroduction to avoid unnecessary long-term restriction
  • Support nutrient adequacy and gut health, recognizing that restrictive diets and chronic symptoms can increase risk of nutrient shortfalls

All MCAS-related strategies are individualized and designed to complement—not replace—medical management.

Mycotoxin-Related Illness and Mold Exposure

For clients with medically evaluated mold or mycotoxin-related illness, the first step is reducing or removing exposure in the home or work environment. Nutrition and lifestyle can then help support recovery by emphasizing anti-inflammatory, nutrient-dense foods and minimizing additional mold and mycotoxin exposures in the diet.

Depending on your situation and medical plan, nutrition support may include:

  • Emphasizing whole, minimally processed foods (vegetables, low-glycemic fruits, quality proteins, and healthy fats) to support immune and detoxification pathways
  • Reducing intake of foods more prone to mold or mycotoxin contamination when appropriate, such as certain nuts, grains, dried fruits, and some stored or fermented products, while preserving diet adequacy and variety
  • Supporting regular bowel movements, hydration, and overall gut health, which can assist with the body’s natural elimination processes

Any supplemental or “detox” strategies are considered in the context of your medical care, symptom picture, and lab data.

Long COVID and EBV-Related Concerns

Post-viral conditions such as Long COVID and Epstein–Barr–related fatigue can involve complex, multisystem symptoms. While medical evaluation and treatment are essential, nutrition and lifestyle can play an important supportive role.

For Long COVID and EBV-related concerns, we may focus on:

  • Ensuring adequate protein, micronutrients, and overall energy intake to support recovery and immune function
  • Anti-inflammatory and gut-supportive nutrition patterns tailored to your tolerance and medical status
  • Gentle, staged strategies for blood sugar balance and energy support
  • Lifestyle recommendations around sleep, stress, and pacing that respect post-viral fatigue and help reduce symptom flares

All recommendations are integrated with your medical plan and adjusted based on your responses and priorities.

Comprehensive Assessment

Because immune and inflammatory concerns are multifactorial, your plan starts with a detailed assessment, which may include:

  • Thorough health and symptom history, including onset, triggers, infection history (for example, COVID-19, EBV), environmental exposures, and flares
  • Review of current diet, eating pattern, supplements, and medications
  • Lifestyle factors such as sleep, stress, activity, and occupational or home exposures
  • Review of available laboratory data and testing from your medical team (for example, inflammatory markers, nutrient status, mycotoxin testing, or mast cell–related labs, when performed and interpreted by your physicians)

When appropriate, we can collaborate with your other providers to help integrate nutrition into your overall care plan.

Personalized Nutrition and Lifestyle Interventions

Your immune-support plan is tailored to your specific health picture and goals, and may include:

  • Anti-inflammatory nutrition strategies, emphasizing omega-3–rich foods (such as fatty fish) and limiting highly processed foods and trans fats
  • Optimization of micronutrient intake (for example, vitamins D and C, zinc, and other nutrients that support immune function) based on diet quality and available lab data
  • Targeted adjustments for MCAS, mycotoxin-related illness, Long COVID, or EBV-related concerns as appropriate, with attention to maintaining variety and nutritional adequacy
  • Lifestyle recommendations to support immune balance, including stress management, sleep hygiene, and appropriate physical activity or pacing as tolerated

The degree of intervention depends on your diagnosis, severity of symptoms, and overall health status. We focus on practical, sustainable changes rather than extreme or highly restrictive protocols.
